Assignment for MKT304 Fall 2011:
I am posting the template for your assignment this semester here and in the class website. This template has to be completed in the course of the entire semester. You will learn how to complete this report as we progress this semester. I will direct you to complete it as early as now but you will acquire the knowledge with time. Take advantage of the TAs lab hours to get ahead.
This report cannot be completed page after page. That is you will need to collect information and many times you may have to go back to sections you thought you had completed but now with more information in your possession you have to make editions to your existing work. This is called "iterative writting" which means you go back and forth when writting.

Review of Proposals. Preliminary feedback.
Most Frequent Comments Overall
- Provide evidence to support statements (primarily in Opportunities and Threats sections)
- Tactic or recommendations listed in Opportunities section
- Be more descriptive/specific in stating S,W,O,T statements
- Incorporate characteristics of each alternative strategy rather than your recommendations for each strategy
- Provide a stronger argument to support your recommended alternatives
- When listing goals/objectives incorporate a timeframe to achieve results
- Still too many Vague/Weak statements
Overall Evaluation:
Overall, the proposals are better than the initial draft with students having a better understanding of what is expected in each section. Many proposals are still making bold statements which seem to be more assumptions than being evidences to support a proposal. Incorporating references will be beneficial. In the strategy sections, writers are prone to talking about recommendations and the pros/cons of their tactics rather than pros and cons of the strategy in general and how it could positively or negatively affect Jacob & Co.

I am placing some samples of Marketing reports in your class section for you to download. These are samples and (1) should not be plagiarized, and (2) they are only samples, that means that they are many other ways one could have written these reports, and (3) every sample could be improved. Hopefully you find them helpful to give you ideas.

Comments/Evaluation on your first draft of Marketing Proposal
--->Most Frequent Comments Overall
Vague, Weak Statement
Not enough S,W,O,T given (i.e.: only 3 or 4)
No solutions given for Weaknesses and Threats
Tactic or recommendations listed in Opportunities section
Be more descriptive/specific in stating S,W,O,T
Incorporate references
Redundant
Overall Evaluation
Overall, there were none that were completely off target. However, most of the papers do have specific areas/sections that need to be completely revised. Most common mistakes are listing tactics or recommendations in the opportunities section, confusing weaknesses and threats, and not providing solutions for weaknesses and threats. There were about 5 that were very strong and only needed minimal corrections. Most do not use references when stating facts or statistics obtained. I believe with more time and guidance from the comments they will be prepared for the final draft.

Strategy to study for the mini-quizzes.
1. Read Chapter before coming to class, or at least be aware of the title of the Chapter.
2. Take class notes to complement downloadable summary slides.
3. Read chapters to prepare for the mini-quiz, at least 2 times.
4. Make your own memory cards based on the Chapters.
5. Read your class notes and downloadable summary slides.
If your class notes and Summary slides have more than what you know
and/or if you
read in them anything that is unfamiliar to you, that means that you are not knowing the
minimum information. If everything is familiar that means you know the minimum,
but this does not mean you could get a A.
6. Search for online information to prepare for the mini-quizzes.
Examples, quiz review samples, etc ...
All of these steps if followed should greatly increase your chance for getting
good grades in your mini-quizzes.

Have you made a team of 4 students. If not this task will have to be completed this coming Wednesday 8th Sept.. You and your team have to write a short proposal which highlights the SWOT of "Jacob the Jeweler".
Find out what is a SWOT, in the textbook, or use the Internet to find what it is, for example in Wikipedia. Check what is a marketing plan too. This way you will get ahead of the game.
This first short report will identify potential strategic directions for Jacob in the future: "what you propose they should do next, from a strategic standpoint".
Do not forget the "whys". 4 pages (more or less), single space, with bullet points.
